My main gigging bass for several years was my F Bass BN5, 5-string bass. The bass has an all Ash body, matching wood pickup covers, and a Maple neck with Maple fingerboard. The bass is hand-crafted in Hamilton, Canada by a world-class Master Luthier named George Furlanetto.  My BN5 has dual volume controls, one for each pickup. The pickups are a split-coil design and can be used in either humbucking or single coil mode. The electronics sport an active 3-band tone section, (bass/mid/treble boost only), an active/passive switch on the passive tone control knob. The passive tone control works in either active and passive mode. Simply put, this preamp is unquestionably the most musical sounding onboard active preamp I have ever heard. What is equally impressive is that the bass sounds amazing in pure passive mode with the preamp/battery disengaged too! It is simply stunning! This is a Desert Island Bass without question.

An F Bass BN5 does it all. It can nail Slap tones like Marcus Miller,  Jaco-esque burpy mids with growl for days and more. It goes from ultra clear, almost modern Hi-fi sounds with a piano clarity low notes, or it can nail old school vintage Fender Jazz bass tones with ease. The B string sounds huge. It is tight, focused, well defined and is equally well balanced with the rest of the strings. The neck profile is sleek and fast. It has a satin smooth oiled finish that plays like butter. George uses a 34.5" scale that is the perfect balance between traditional 34" scale basses and a 35" bass that is known to tighten up the B string.
